Enhancing voices in palliative home care
Fraser Health celebrated their 10th Annual Research Week from June 15 to 19, featuring presentations by investigators from all disciplines, including CHÉOS Scientist Dr. Rick Sawatzky.
Dr. Sawatzky and co-presenter Clinical Nurse Specialist Barbara McLeod shared their research on enhancing the voices of patients in palliative home care as well as those of their family caregivers using mobile applications. Researchers are measuring participants’ quality of life concerns and health care experiences using QPSS, a quality of life assessment and practice support system administered via tablet. Investigators are looking at how one can best facilitate the integration and routine use of the QPSS as a practice support tool in palliative home care, and whether the QPSS improves quality of care.
Among many fascinating presentations were those by UBC Professors Dr. Kendall Ho on eHealth and Dr. Stirling Bryan on patient experiences and knee replacement surgery.
