Dear Primary Investigator,
Undergraduate Research Opportunities and the Science Undergraduate Society are devoted to increasing interest and involvement in undergraduate research. For this reason, we have introduced a new event into the Science Week schedule this year: the Research Involvement Fair.
Looking to meet multiple students interested in your research face-to-face? This event is your opportunity to meet serious, qualified undergraduate students, while helping students improve their interview skills.
This event is taking place on Tuesday, January 19th, 5-7PM, during Science Week, which is hosted by the Science Undergraduate Society.
We would like to request your presence, or a delegated research member’s presence, at this event.
At the Research Involvement Fair, you will have the opportunity to interview numerous keen, qualified undergraduate students in a format resembling speed dating. Students will apply to sign up for interviews with specific research groups through URO, and this will ensure only serious and committed students are interviewed.
We encourage primary investigators seeking to recruit volunteers (or employees) for the present, the summer, or the following winter to attend this event. Beyond recruitment, the Research Involvement Fair is an excellent opportunity to spread awareness of your research, and to help students learn how to successfully interview in the context of research positions.
A link to your profile about your lab and your research would be accessible to the undergraduates. This would allow them to review your research before the interview.
If you are interested in participating, please reply to this email and we will be in further contact.
Thank you for your help in fostering engagement and excellence in research at UBC.
On behalf of Undergraduate Research Opportunities, and the Science Undergraduate Society
