Lexmark X264dn

You can scan with the Lexmark X264 then send the image directly to someone’s e-mail address or control scanning directly from your computer.

Like our larger Xerox multifunction printers, the Lexmark X264dn can scan your printed documents and send them to you as e-mail attachments.  The default output format for all pre-entered e-mail address is PDF (Adobe Acrobat or OS X Preview).

Sending an e-mail using the keypad

  1. Load an original document faceup, short edge first into the ADF or facedown on the scanner glass.
Note: Do not load postcards, photos, small items, transparencies, photo paper, or thin media (such as magazine clippings) into the ADF. Place these items on the scanner glass.
  1. If you are loading a document into the ADF, then adjust the paper guides.
  2. From the printer control panel, press the Scan/Email button.

Scan to E-mail appears.

  1. Press LexmarkCheck.

Search appears.

Note: If there are no entries in the address book, then Manual Entry appears.
  1. Press LexmarkCheck to search the address book, or press the arrow buttons until Manual appears, and then press LexmarkCheck to select or enter an e-mail address.

Using the address book

    1. After selecting Search on the printer control panel, press the arrow buttons until the address you want appears, and then press LexmarkCheck.
    2. Press 1 to search for another address, or press 2 to end the search.

After you press 2, Press Start To Begin appears.

    1. Press LexmarkCheck.

Manually entering an e-mail address

After selecting Manual on the printer control panel, Entry Name appears on the first line, and a blank line with a blinking cursor appears on the second line.

    1. Press the button on the keypad that corresponds with the number or letter you want. The first time you press the button, the number for that button appears. When you press the button again, one of the letters assigned to that button appears.
    2. Press the right arrow button to move to the next space, or wait a few seconds, and the cursor will move to the next space.
    3. Once the e-mail address is entered, press LexmarkCheck.

Another E-mail? 1=Yes 2=NO appears.

    1. Press 1 to enter another address, or press 2 to end the address entry.

After you press 2, Press Start To Begin appears.

    1. Press LexmarkStart.

Sending an e-mail using a shortcut number

  1. Load an original document faceup, short edge first into the ADF or facedown on the scanner glass.

  1. If you are loading a document into the ADF, then adjust the paper guides.
  2. From the printer control panel, press the Scan/Email button.

  1. Press LexmarkNumber, and then enter the recipient's shortcut number.
  2. Press 1 to enter another shortcut, or press 2 to end the shortcut entry.
  3. Press LexmarkStart.

This method allows you to make scanner adjustments, from your computer.  It requires installation of Java software on your computer, which makes it more vulnerable to security issues.

  1. Type the printer IP address (http://142.103.135.36) into the address field, of your Web browser.
  2. Click Scan Profile.  Note: The first time, you will get a security warning.  Please select "Always trust content from this publisher.", then click Run.
  3. Click Create.
  4. Select your scan settings and then click Next.
  5. Click Browse, to select a location on your computer, where you want to save the scanned output and enter a file name for it.
  6. "User Name" should be pre-filled.  Enter a scan name (e.g.: tony), to identify the scan, at the scanner.
  7. Note the shortcut number and click Submit.  Note: On first use, you'll need to unblock "Java(TM) Platform SE binary".
  8. Scan your document.
    1. Load an original document face up, short edge first, into the ADF or face down, on the scanner glass.  Note: Do not load postcards, photos, small items, transparencies, photo paper, or thin media (such as magazine clippings) into the ADF.  Place these items on the scanner glass.
    2. If you are loading a document into the ADF, adjust the paper guides.
    3. Press the Scan/Email button.
    4. Press the arrow buttons until "Profiles" appears, then press ∠.
    5. Press ∠, then enter the shortcut number.
    6. Press ∠.
    7. Remove your documents, from the scanner.
  9. Return to the computer, to view the file.  The output file is saved in the location you specified earlier.
  10. Close your Web browser.
