Web Site Editing
Our web site is hosted by the Faculty of Medicine, on their Active Content Manager (ACM) web server. Psychiatry Technical Support staff manage the Psychiatry web site and account creation for those Department members that maintain their own child pages. Our web site's Uniform Resource Locator (URL) is http://www.psychiatry.ubc.ca
Page editing and previewing is done on the ACM server. Changes to the ACM server don’t immediately show to the public, on the static web server.

When creating new pages, please fill in the "URL Title" field with an abbreviated name, for your page. This helps keep the URL (address) line, in viewers web browsers, short. It also reduces the number of orphaned files on the static server, which although not linked from our own page, may still be viewed and may be linked from other organizations web sites.
Digital Assets
Digital Assets include any files, which you want to add to your web pages. They may include;
- photographs (typically JPG format). Portraits should be 150 pixels wide by 225 pixels high (2:3 ratio), if possible.
- graphics (typically GIF format)
- Portable document files (*.PDF format). These are frequently called Acrobat and are viewable by most people, with a free viewer.
- Microsoft Word documents (*.DOC format). Not everyone can view this format, so please avoid this format.
To add a photo, to your page, place your cursor where you want the photo. Click the Insert Digital Asset

button. Use the Browse tab

to for photos existing in ACM or the Add tab to upload new photos to ACM. Please save your Assets in an orderly fashion, within "site Psychiatry", not at the root. If they are Assets that other divisions, within Psychiatry, might use, please save them within "site Psychiatry - images".
Links
Internal Links are used to hyperlink to other pages in the Psychiatry web site.
External Links are used to hyperlink to the web sites of other organizations. It should therefore be made very clear that the content is not ours by checking the external link icon checkbox and set the link to "open in a new window".
Publishing
Using "emergency publish" will load a web page onto the static web server, along with it's images, but new linked documents still won't load on the static web server until the regular 9:50pm reload. The way to mitigate this is by forcing an unscheduled export, which will accomplish both the posting of the page and the export of the digital asset.
The Workflow tab has a "Follow-Up Task/Review" radio button. It is not functional in the current version (Feb 2010) of ACM. Also on the Workflow tab is a "Publish Date" feature which allows you to prepare pages early and schedule their publishing for a specified date/time.
Help
ACM has a help button on the right hand end, of its top menu and a round blue help button in each section of the editor.
