20120203 Education Leadership Update

Sent on behalf of Dr. David Snadden, Executive Associate Dean, Education

Happy New Year colleagues,

I hope that you all had a restful break. This new year already promises to be one full of exciting challenges and opportunities.

I’m pleased to inform you that Dr. Kamal Rungta has agreed to stay involved in the Education portfolio in the role of Special Advisor. Two of his key areas of focus will be professionalism and our Aboriginal strategy.

Dr. Dawn DeWitt has joined us as Regional Associate Dean, Vancouver Fraser. We have arranged for Chandra Shekhar Arya to support Dr. DeWitt as she transitions into her new position. Chandra can be reached at vfmprad.admin@ubc.ca or 604-875-4111 x66499.

Holly Crowell will be supporting me and my office as well as several MD undergraduate activities. She can be reached at eade.admin@ubc.ca or 604-875-4111 x66726.

Regretfully, Dr. Karen Joughin has resigned from her position as Interim Director, Curriculum, effective February 3, 2012. She will also step down from her position as Co-Chair of the Curriculum Renewal Working Group on Curriculum Design. Dr. Joughin has contributed greatly to the program over the last several years in her roles as Assistant Dean, VFMP, Interim Associate Dean, Curriculum and VFMP, and as Co-Chair of the Curriculum Renewal Working Group on Curriculum Design. She will remain a clinical faculty member in the Department of Surgery. I have asked her to work with Dr. DeWitt and Dr. Ian Scott to explore new ways to contribute to our curriculum renewal efforts in the future.

I would like to once again thank Karen for the enormous contribution she has made to the success of our program, and also extend my welcome to those who are undertaking new roles within the Education portfolio. 2012 looks to be a promising year for all of us.

With thanks,

Dave Snadden
