20110726 Search Committee: Deputy Vice Chancellor and Principal, Okanagan Campus

To: All UBC students, faculty and staff

A search committee has been established to recommend to the Board of Governors a new Deputy Vice Chancellor and Principal (DVC) for the Okanagan campus. It held its first meeting on August 24th, 2011.

The DVC, responsible to the President, will provide strategic leadership to UBC’s Okanagan Campus to accomplish the vision, commitments, goals, and actions as set out in the University’s strategic plan, Place and Promise:

The UBC Plan.

The DVC will provide high level oversight for a complicated portfolio focusing on the operation of the Okanagan campus and its relationship with the UBC system.

As per Board Policy 18 regarding the appointment of the DVC, the following have been appointed or elected to the Committee:

– Stephen Toope, Chair

– Theresa Arsenault [Board]

– Sarah Morgan Silvester [Board and Chancellor]

– Spencer Robins [Board and Okanagan student]

– Neil Cadger [Senate]

– Sharon McCoubrey [Senate]

– Laura Patterson [Senate]

– Cynthia Mathieson [Senate]

– Sarah Martinuik [Okanagan Student]

– Ian Cull [Direct Report]

– Jackie Podger [Direct Report]

– Patricia Stevens, Secretary

The Committee is entering into a consultative process to define the main challenges of the portfolio, and in that context, to identify the background, experience and qualities we are seeking in prospective candidates, and then to recommend at least one candidate for appointment. Following the deliberations of the Committee, I will make a recommendation to the Board of Governors concerning the appointment of a candidate.
