20110909 Thank you Letter from the Dean

Dear Clinical Faculty,

This year we celebrate two milestones: the 50th anniversary of Rehabilitation Sciences and the largest MD graduating class in British Columbia’s history. Behind each of these milestones is the education of thousands of health professionals who have been taught and inspired by Clinical Faculty. I would like to express my deep appreciation and thank you for your part in ensuring the success of our graduates.

Rehabilitation Sciences at the UBC Faculty of Medicine began in 1961 when the new School of Rehabilitation Medicine enrolled its first class of 15 students. Today Rehabilitation Sciences consists of two Departments, numerous academic programs, diverse research initiatives, and hundreds of faculty, staff, and students. As the Departments of Physical Therapy and Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy celebrate this significant milestone, I would like to acknowledge the long tradition and on-going contribution of Clinical Faculty who have made this milestone possible.

In addition, the largest MD class in British Columbia’s history graduated this year as a result of our innovative distributed medical education program. This achievement, as reflected in my Vancouver Sun article, is the result of many combined efforts and would never have occurred without the thousands of Clinical Faculty across British Columbia.

The academic year ahead once again promises to be full of new opportunities and milestones, including the official launch of the Southern Medical Program. As a Clinical Faculty member you are instrumental to the growth and progress of the UBC Faculty of Medicine and its mandate to contribute to the health of individuals and communities locally, nationally, and internationally by fostering excellence, innovation, and scholarship in education, research, and care. Thank you again for all your knowledge, time, and efforts which have brought us to this year’s milestones, and I look forward to celebrating many more successes with you in the coming year.

Sincerely,

Gavin C.E. Stuart, MD, FRCSC
