This is a CPA and APA approved clinical psychology internship with substantial opportunities for the development of competence in cognitive behavioural therapy and clinical neuropsychology. The goals of the intership are to train students to a high level of competence in empirically-validated psychological treatments, to expand their applied research skills, and to develop a high level of professional skills in general. Interns who have strong interests in cognitive behavioural therapy can obtain specialty training in clinical research and treatment of panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, blood-injury phobia, unipolar depression, and social phobia.
Interns have a full year, one-half time exposure to out-patient cognitive behavioural therapy. Interns with strong interests in neuropsychology can meet APA Division 40 requirements for neuropsychological content (i.e., 50% of their supervised experience). Interns have access to several neuropsychologically-impaired populations, including patients with dementias, head injuries, Parkinson's disease, CVAs, MS, and conversion disorders. Designated research time and resources are readily available. Teaching faculty have clinical or academic appointments at the University of British Columbia and are active in research and clinical practice.
