Dr. Chris Bertram – Finding strengths: stealth health for children with FASD
Date: Thursday, February 21st, 2013
Pre-event: 5:30pm wine & cheese
Talk: 6:00 pm – Location: Paetzold Lecture Theatre, Jim Pattison Pavilion, VGH
Intervention programs for children with FASD have traditionally focused on deficits in cognitive ability, intellectual capacity or social behaviours. However, Dr. Bertram and his team focus their strategies on leveraging some of the reported strengths and special abilities of the FASD population, such as motor function and their aptitude for working with computer-based video games. Using EEG neurofeedback, oculomotor testing and neuropsychological assessment, this team has demonstrated that enhancement of these strengths is accompanied by improvements in cognitive function in children with FASD.
