The Angelman Syndrome Foundation is accepting applications from research organizations for preclinical, translational, or clinical research projects that investigate any aspect of Angelman syndrome.
The foundation will award one- or two-year grants in amounts ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 per year. While all types of AS-related research proposals will be considered, priority will be given to pilot projects designed to test new ideas about the pathogenesis of and therapeutics for AS.
Researchers from all countries, all types of organizations, and all types of sciences — including neuroscience, biotechnology, psychology, and all others — are encouraged to apply.

A grant to a maximum of $25,000 is offered for research projects in Canada related to Celiac Disease and/or Gluten Sensitivity. While open to all types of relevant research, our focus in 2013 will be studies that address gluten sensitivity or socio-economic factors impacting how people live with their condition.

The J.A. Campbell Young Investigator Award is $5,000 for Research in Celiac Disease, Gluten Sensitivity and /or socio-economic factors impacting how people live with their condition. This award is available to individuals under the age of 35 or not more than five (5) years after graduation from a recognized Medical or Health Sciences School, University Undergraduate, or Graduate Training Program.

In the context of improved health for Canadians, the objectives of the Collaborative Health Research Projects (CHRP) program are to:
- Translate research results to knowledge/technology users and other stakeholders;
- Encourage the natural sciences or engineering and health research communities to collaborate and integrate their expertise;
- Advance interdisciplinary research leading to knowledge and technologies with the potential to benefit Canada by improving the Canadian healthcare system and/or services and where appropriate lead to economic opportunities in Canada; and
- Train highly qualified personnel in collaborative and interdisciplinary research of relevance to health, while preparing them for employment opportunities in the private, public or not for profit sectors.

The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) is pleased to announce the 2013 PCF Challenge Award Request For Applications related to metastatic prostate cancer.
PCF Challenge Awards will support large-scale research projects concerning metastatic prostate cancer over a duration of two years, providing up to a total of $1 million per team. The award will cover direct research costs only. The 2013 PCF Challenge Awards focus on funding Treatment Sciences: Investigations of new ideas in man or laboratory support of a high-impact clinical investigation with a high probability of near-term patient benefit.
Proposals must be from teams of at least 3 highly experienced investigators capable of providing unique scientific expertise to the solution of a significant problem in prostate cancer research. The team may be assembled from one institution, or several institutions from across the globe, and must embed a young investigator as an integral contributor to the team.
One of our Challenge awards will be funded in conjunction with Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC) and designated as an A. David Mazzone-PCF Challenge Award.

CIC is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 2013–2014 Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellows program. You can find additional information about participation in the program at www.cic.edu/VisitingFellows, including biographical information about the growing list of high-profile professionals who serve as Visiting Fellows.
The program makes it possible for a college or university to bring to campus, for a full week, a distinguished public policymaker, journalist, artist, environmentalist, diplomat, business leader, or other nonacademic expert for seminars, lectures, classes, and informal meetings with students and faculty groups. Visiting Fellows choose to participate in the program because they relish the opportunity to share their expertise with undergraduates. Students in turn become better informed and actively engaged in fields that may be linked to post-graduation career plans.
Campuses are matched with Fellows in the order the applications are received so campuses are encouraged to submit requests as early as possible. Applications submitted later in the academic year will be accepted but with less assurance of arranging the first choice of Fellow and date of visit.
The fee, which remains this year at the same level as it has been for several years, is lower than the price that most of the Fellows charge for a single lecture. A Fellow’s residency on campus is a cost-effective way to bring high quality, intellectually stimulating, and engaging programming to the entire campus community. The fixed fee for a five-day residency is $6,550 for nonmember institutions. CIC pays the Fellow’s honorarium, travel, and other incidental expenses, and the host campus provides local transportation, housing, and meals while the Fellow is in residence.
Since assuming responsibility for the Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellows program in January 2008, CIC has arranged hundreds of campus visits and increased the number of participating Fellows to more than 135. The visits have received enthusiastic reviews from presidents, deans, faculty members, and students. The Visiting Fellows themselves also have been effusive in their praise for the program.

The Greater Vancouver Regional Science Fair (GVRSF) will be held April 11-13 at UBC (in the SUB Ballroom). The event provides an opportunity for the region’s top science students in grades 7-12 to showcase their work. Awards are granted in a variety of categories and the top Regional Science Fair entries will be invited to attend the 2013 Canada-Wide Science Fair.
The event organizers are currently seeking an additional ~30 judges from all areas of science and engineering to assist with judging the student submissions (faculty, working professionals, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, research associates etc.). The judging will take place over two rounds in the afternoon and evening on Thursday April 11th

UBC CPD in partnership with the BCCA and FPON is pleased to announce the third series of Cancer Care Outreach Program on Education (CCOPE) community workshops. These popular, interactive workshops will provide BC family physicians with a better understanding of their roles and best practices across the cancer care continuum. These small-group workshops will be facilitated by a local physician, and will be 2-hour case-based discussions with colleagues over dinner.
