To: All UBC Faculty and Staff
Protecting the University’s information assets and ensuring that our community receives the best security are a priority at UBC IT. Last year, we implemented changes to the Campus-Wide Login (CWL) Terms of Use to notify account holders of security policies and copyright access guidelines. To continue on this path of enhancing security measures, we will be updating CWL password policies on Wednesday, October 23, 2013. CWL passwords form a key line of defense in protecting personal information at UBC; this includes student information, employee banking data, along with a number of other confidential records. UBC understands the importance of keeping this information confidential and takes its stewardship responsibilities seriously; as a result we’re stepping up password controls to better position UBC to meet current and future security threats.
CWL passwords will now need to be changed once a year. CWL account holders will be asked to update their password on the anniversary date of their last CWL password change. If CWL account holders have not changed their password since creating their account, they will be asked to update their password on the date the account was created. CWL account holders will be given three opportunities to take action. If no further action is taken after three opportunities, account holders will not be able to access applications that require CWL, and instead will be redirected to the CWL myAccount page to change their password.
