David Strangway Building network failure – Dec 3 12:40pm

NOTE: The following applies to all computers that logon to the D_Psychiatry or psychiatry.ubc.ca network, in the David Strangway Building. It also applies to CIHR contract supported computers. Self-managed computers and computers in other buildings should not be affected.

A critical piece of networking equipment, in the David Strangway Building, has failed.  This equipment provided a secure network “tunnel” between the Strangway Building and the main Psychiatry secured network.

Psychiatry IT has been working with the Faculty of Medicine IT team, for the past few months, preparing to move the Strangway network to a new system.  Because of the failure of the old equipment, we will immediately be implementing the new system.

MedIT staff have moved all affected network circuits, to the new system. Psychiatry IT staff are currently visiting your offices, to make a small change to your computer (also printers etc.) network settings. This change is required, before your computer will have access to any resources, on the network. Visits are initially to offices that are occupied, followed by offices where nobody is working.

Unfortunately, because of to the sudden nature of this issue, Psychiatry IT staff may need to return to your computers at a later date, to make another network setting change.
