In the past, UBC IT has purchased Mathworks Matlab software licenses in bulk, then redistributed them to departments, at cost. UBC has realised that there is considerable overhead in the payment of licensing fees, throughout faculties and departments and that a significant number of groups would either start using licenses and toolboxes, or expand their use, but have not be able to afford to purchase licenses.
Effective February 11th, Matlab will be free for teaching and research use, across campus. Specific details about the license can be found online at http://it.ubc.ca/services/desktop-print-services/software-licensing/matlab.
Please note the following:
– Licenses are available for academic and research use by UBC Staff, Faculty, and Students
– Licenses can be used by students in teaching labs but not on their own computers
– Licenses will cover unlimited use of Matlab on campus including all toolboxes except the Distributed Computing Engine (Limited to a maximum of 32 workers per installation)
– Access will continue to be offered via a license server, but access will be made available for offline use if needed for travel etc.
Please contact Psychiatry.IT@ubc.ca for assistance, if you would like to use MatLab on your departmental computer.
