Neuronal Synapses and Mental Health

Synapses are the major units of communication in the brain. The development, strength, and functional properties of excitatory and inhibitory synapses are controlled by cell surface synapse organizing proteins. Mutations in synapse organizing proteins can increase risk for autism spectrum disorders and schizophrenia, making them potential targets for developing novel therapeutics.
Dr. Ann Marie Craig is a Professor of Psychiatry and Canada Research Chair in Neurobiology. She is currently based at the Brain Research Centre, where her lab studies various aspects of neuronal synapses. For more information, follow the following link below:
