***Sent on behalf of Dr. Gavin Stuart, Dean of Medicine and Vice-Provost Health***
It is with regret that I have accepted the resignation of Dr. Carolyn Brown as Head of the Department of Medical Genetics at the University of British Columbia (UBC) effective April 30th, 2014. Concurrently, Dr. Brown will also be resigning from her administrative position within BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre. She will remain as a Professor in the Department of Medical Genetics at UBC.
Dr. Brown has determined to resign from these leadership roles for personal health reasons. I am very pleased that she will remain as a leading academic at UBC in her professorial role. Dr. Brown accepted the role of Head of the Department of Medical Genetics on July 1st, 2011. She has very capably addressed numerous challenges within the Department of and sought new opportunities to recruit and retain academic clinicians and scientists.
I will be seeking to announce interim leadership for the Department of Medical Genetics while a plan is developed for the search and selection process for a new incumbent. I will continue to provide Dr. Brown with my full support in her academic career here at UBC.
