This message is being sent on behalf of Linda McKnight, Director, Human Resources, Advisory Services, to HR Network members. A copy of this message was sent to Heads Up (Vancouver campus) earlier today. The BCTF has announced that the teachers will launch rotating strikes effective Monday, May 26, 2014, for four days and that they will be establishing picket lines at the schools impacted.
Many parents/guardians will be struggling to find alternate care for their children. Where alternate care can’t be found or only partially found, it is expected that staff may be seeking vacation on short notice or flexibility in their current schedule.
This is a difficult situation and we ask that managers be as flexible as possible, within their operational requirements, to help manage through this strike.
Information on planned strikes can be found in today’s Vancouver Sun: http://www.vancouversun.com/business/teachers+begin+rotating+strikes+next+week+updated+with+video/9859376/story.html.
