Green College (motto: “Ideas and Friendship”) is a collective of scholars and creators at UBC. It is a residential facility for
graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and visiting faculty from all disciplines, and also a host-venue for co-curricular, crossdisciplinary
and cross-sectoral programs, organized by UBC faculty members and others. Green College academic and artistic
events are open free of charge to all members of the University and wider local community. The College is housed in a 100-
year-old heritage building and has excellent meals catered by its own dining society. www.greencollege.ubc.ca
You are also invited to send a one-page summary (max. 500 words) of a current research interest of yours,
pitched for a multidisciplinary audience: to email@example.com, deadline Tuesday 14 October (as for the RSVP).
If yours is among the top submissions selected by the College’s Academic Committee, you will be eligible for
appointment as a Green College Leading Scholar in 2014-15. Winners will be announced at the reception.
YOU ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND THE RECEPTION EVEN IF YOU DO NOT SUBMIT A RESEARCH STATEMENT.
The Green College Leading Scholars program provides newly appointed (2013-) UBC faculty members with
an opportunity to develop connections while sharing their ideas in a social setting. The appointment is for a twoyear
period. In the first year of the appointment, GC Leading Scholars meet as a group over dinner at the
College at least four times between November and April. In the second year, they are expected to make paired
research presentations as part of the College’s public interdisciplinary programming. Dinners are complimentary.
GC Leading Scholars as a group can draw on a budget of up to $5000 p.a. to organize an interdisciplinary
workshop in late April or early May in collaboration with resident members of the College. At the end of their
two-year appointment, GC Leading Scholars may become Members of Common Room at Green College.
If you have questions about Green College or the GC Leading Scholars program, please feel free to contact
