With no end in sight for the labour dispute between the BCTF and the B.C. Government, faculty and staff may continue to struggle to find care for their school-age children. The UBC HR Faculty Staff Housing & Relocation Services team has identified information that may be of assistance to you. Following is a link to the UBC HR website outlining childcare resources for school-age children: http://www.hr.ubc.ca/housing-relocation/family-care/child-care-schooling-vancouver/#august2014.
Where alternate care cannot be found or only partially found, it is expected that staff may seek vacation on short notice, unpaid leave, or flexibility in their current schedule.
This continues to be a difficult situation, especially at such a busy time of year at UBC. We ask that managers continue to be as flexible as possible, within their operational requirements, to help manage through this job action.
