Launch of the Professorship in Sustainable Health Care
On January 21, UBC formally launched the Professorship in Sustainable Health Care, a faculty position held by CHÉOS Scientist Dr. Mark Harrison, at a special event on the UBC Point Grey campus. The event was attended by faculty and staff of the UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Providence Health Care (PHC), and representatives from both the B.C. Ministry of Health and the initiative’s industry partners.

Dr. Rita McCracken
We are pleased to welcome Dr. Rita McCracken to CHÉOS as a new Scientist! Since January 2010, she has been the Associate Head of PHC’s Department of Family and Community Medicine and works with clinical and operations colleagues to improve acute care services and their interface with the community. Dr. McCracken is a PhD candidate in UBC’s Experimental Medicine program and is studying polypharmacy in frail elders. A full service family physician in Vancouver, she also provides nursing home care at St. Vincent’s Hospital: Langara. E-Mental Health Conference a Success
The CHÉOS Addictions and Concurrent Disorders Group hosted the 4th Annual e-Mental Health Conference: “From Telemedicine to Virtual Mental Health,” on January 17 and 18 to resounding success.
Speakers highlighted local and international e-mental health innovations, as well as featured original research and new applications. CHÉOS Scientist Dr. Michael Krausz and his team presented their work on WalkAlong, an online mental health resource made possible through Bell Canada’s Let’s Talk campaign.

Finding Value in an Era of High-Priced Drugs
The early bird registration deadline is approaching on January 31 for the UBC Centre for Health Services and Policy Research (CHSPR) 27th Annual Health Policy Conference: “Sticker Shock: Finding value in an era of high-priced drugs.” The conference will take place on March 3 in Vancouver.
Nominate a Scientist for the Research and Mission Award
PHC Research Institute is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the 2015 Research and Mission Award. This award recognizes a scientist within the institute who demonstrates the mission and values of PHC while conducting outstanding research. Candidates may be nominated by an individual at PHC and be supported by two PHC staff members. The nomination deadline is February 23.
