Dr. Ken Lim appointed Head, Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ken Lim as Head of the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine for the BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre and the UBC Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, effective January 2, 2015.
Dr. Lim is an obstetrician and gynecologist, sub-specializing in the area of maternal fetal medicine at BC Women’s, where he has worked in the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) since 1997. Dr. Lim is also a CFRI Clinical Investigator and Clinical Associate Professor in the UBC Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology with a significant research and teaching portfolio. He is author or co-author on a number of clinical guidelines at the provincial and national level, and currently holds several research grants.

Reminder: CFRI administration area changes
This Friday, March 6, the 2nd floor CFRI administration area in the Translational Research Building will close at 12:00 p.m. Beginning that afternoon and continuing over the following week, renovations will be ongoing to rework the area to support the move of administrative staff who currently work in other parts of the building, as well as making more efficient use of the existing space.

Cystinosis Research Foundation: $2-million available for grants
The CRF currently has $2-million available for new research grants and fellowships.
Applications are being accepted for research studies and for the Post-Doctoral Cystinosis Research Fellowship Program. CRF’s goal is to fund the best and most promising research in the world in an effort to ensure that better treatments and a cure are found as soon as possible.
CRF is a non-profit organization dedicated to aggressively funding cystinosis research to ensure the development of new and improved therapies, and a cure for cystinosis. Since its inception in 2003, CRF has issued 125 research grants and fellowships totaling over $20-million in cystinosis research.
The deadline for Spring 2015 applications is Monday, April 6, 2015.

UBC Equity Enhancement Fund 2015
If you have a great idea for a project to help make UBC a more equitable, diverse and inclusive campus but no idea how to fund it, the UBC Equity Enhancement Fund can help.
The Equity Enhancement Fund is available to all students, faculty and staff who want to develop and promote ideas that significantly boost campus community’s equity and diversity. There is separate funding for the Okanagan and Vancouver campuses.
The Canadian Child Health Clinician Scientist Program (CCHCSP) is a transdisciplinary training program for the next generation of clinician-scientists in child and youth health research in Canada. CCHCSP will hold their annual symposium on June 5-7 at the Westin Nova Scotia in Halifax.
CCHCSP will reimburse travel and accommodation expenses for two “rising researchers” from UBC who wish to attend the symposium. These researchers must come from different disciplines.
More information about the conference program and registration will be posted on the CCHCSP website in the coming weeks.

Every year CFRI, Providence Health Care Research Institute and Vancouver Costal Health Research Institute (VCHRI) present a free public forum on the latest discoveries in health research.

The Scholars of Excellence Program is an exciting new CFRI initiative that will give exceptional trainees the opportunity to develop innovative research under the mentorship of researchers at CFRI and BC Children’s Hospital. Scholars will receive a generous stipend of $70,000 a year for 3-5 years.
The deadline for the CFRI Summer Studentship and Summer Student Research Education Program (for externally funded students) is March 15, 2015.
CFRI’s Summer Student Research Program includes funding and education opportunities that foster research awareness and interest for the undergraduate and medical community.
