Campus Heating System closer to completion
UBC is upgrading the system that provides heat for buildings on campus. This project, also known as District Energy, will replace our 90-year-old steam infrastructure with a more efficient, sustainable hot water system.

The “heart” of the new system will be the Campus Energy Centre (CEC), which has achieved a significant milestone in its construction with the recent delivery of three 15 Megawatt capacity boilers.  The boilers have travelled over 3,500 km from Wichita Kansas, and will supply hot water to 110 buildings through 18 kilometers of insulated pipe below ground.

C+CP Director Features
C+CP had two of its directors profiled in the Ubyssey recently. Read about how Carole Jolly and Gerry McGeough have helped to shape campus through their work on building our community and designing the spaces we interact with.

National Landscape Architect Award
UBC has won a National Merit Award from the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects for its transformative work and design on Main Mall, University Boulevard, and Agricultural and Memorial Roads.

Utown@UBC Community Bike Clinics
Get you bike tuned up for the spring and learn how you can take a stand by getting informed, making a choice, and planning to vote in the upcoming transit referendum.
Clinics are on April 9th, 16th and 30th at various times and locations. Check out the website for more details.

Safe + Sustainable Transportation Month
May is Safe + Sustainable Transportation Month. There will be initiatives being promoted throughout campus tied to walking and cycling, including Bike to Work Week.

No Plastic!
No plastics of any kind (including bags) should be put in the green Food Scraps bins at UBC. Plastic will cause problems at the Composting Facility on campus, and cause entire bins of food scraps to be sent to the landfill because they could not be processed.

More information on composting in Metro Vancouver and UBC’s Sort it Out program is available online.

Engineering Education for Sustainable Development Conference
The 2015 EESD conference is being held at UBC in June and will explore current and future ways of thinking in this field.
Date: June 9-12, 2015
Location: UBC, Vancouver
Registration is now open.
