Fake Anti-Virus software is one of the most frequently encountered and persistent threats on the web. This malware, with over half a million variants, uses social engineering to lure you, scare you into believing your computer is infected with threats that do not really exist, and then pushes you to purchase services to clean up the non-existent threats. Often those services and software are actually viruses themselves.
As a member of UBC, you can download and install Sophos antivirus, for your home computer, for free, from http://www.it.ubc.ca/, using your CWL account.
