Campus and Community Planning
As public stewards, we are accountable for ensuring that any choices made about land, buildings, infrastructure and transportation serve UBC’s core academic mission and advance sustainability.
What’s blooming on campus?
Spring came early this year but it’s still possible to see the odd rhododendron and magnolia, and after taking a tour with UBC’s Campus Landscape Architect Dean Gregory, there are many things to keep an eye out for when you’re walking around campus, including Dogwood, Lupines and Alliums.
Find out what to look for when you’re strolling through campus this month.

Shut the Sash and Save!
With over 400 research labs on campus, UBC’s research activities have a big impact on energy. Fume hoods, used in scientific experiments, can each use the same amount of energy as 3.5 households. The annual Shut the Sash competition engages researchers working in labs to save energy through one simple action—closing laboratory fume hoods.
See how much energy was saved in this year’s competition as well as find out who were the overall winners here.
