This message was sent to the Dean’s Office, Department/School/ Institute/ Centre Heads, Directors, Administrators and Assistants, and Communications Contacts on behalf of Dr. Dermot Kelleher, Dean, Faculty of Medicine.
I am writing to update you on changes within the Faculty of Medicine’s executive team.
Firstly, Dr. Fred Mikelberg will be stepping down from his role as Vice Dean, Academic Affairs effective December 31. Dr. Mikelberg has served in this role for 3 ½ years and the Faculty has benefitted tremendously from his dedication and commitment. This most recent appointment was preceded by Dr. Mikelberg’s tenure as Head, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences which also benefitted from his vision and leadership for more than 10 years. I am sure you will join me in thanking Dr. Mikelberg for his exceptional service to UBC’s Faculty of Medicine and academic medicine over the years. He will be continuing on in his role as Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.
In addition, as Dr. David Snadden, Executive Associate Dean, Education and Dr. Howard Feldman, Executive Associate Dean, Research will complete their terms early next summer, a search for their successors will begin shortly. I have been incredibly impressed with the leadership that they both have provided across the Faculty of Medicine and invite you to join me in thanking them for their outstanding contributions.
I look forward to updating you again early in the New Year as we build on the strong leadership provided by Drs. Mikelberg, Snadden and Feldman, to develop our 2016 strategic plan and priorities.
