MD Undergraduate Curriculum Renewal – Dec 21, 2015
Sent on behalf of Assistant Dean, Curriculum Dr. Adam Peets, and Interim Director of Assessment Dr. Kiran Veerapen.
2015 has been a momentous year for the MD Undergraduate Program. We successfully launched a renewed curriculum for the Class of 2019 and future medical students of British Columbia! This significant achievement is the result of hard work from countless faculty, staff, and students over the past six years.
We continue to be amazed by the commitment and dedication demonstrated by everyone who has worked on the renewed curriculum.
Both our successes and challenges have united us as a team, and we have made huge strides in delivering the first term of the renewed academic year.
We would like to thank all of the teams who have been remarkable in working together to develop the content for the first year. We would also like to thank everyone for their exceptional work in mapping the individual educational activity objectives covered by the MEDD 410 – Transition into Medical Education, MEDD 411 – Foundations of Medical Practice I, and MEDD 419 – Foundations of Scholarship and Flexible Enhanced Learning (FLEX), courses. We know there is much more content development and mapping to come!
To complement the new course content, we are happy to see the first strands of the Programmatic Assessment framework come to fruition. The results from the students’ first Progress Test in August demonstrate the success of this new assessment modality. We have successfully integrated and delivered the new assessment modalities – Progress Tests, WBAs and Portfolios, with the existing methods, OSCEs and Written Exams. Thank you for your hard work.
We would like to thank the faculty and staff who have successfully delivered the first term for the Class of 2019. We are grateful for your commitment and enthusiasm.
We would like to thank all of you, throughout the province, who have worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the renewed curriculum across the Northern, Southern, Island, and Vancouver Fraser Medical Programs.
We look forward to seeing you in the New Year to continue the great work we have achieved so far in delivering Year 1, and developing Years 2, 3 and 4 of the renewed curriculum.
Happy Holidays!
