This message is sent on behalf of Dr. Robert McMaster, Interim Executive Associate Dean, Research, to all faculty and staff in the Faculty of Medicine.
As of May 1, 2015, all discretionary powers for the recovery rate of indirect costs, (for projects not covered by the standard or published verified rates), were assigned to the Deans of the faculties, and are no longer with the Vice President Research & International Office. In turn, each faculty has developed their own policies on rates of ICR. You will find the FoM Indirect Costs of Research Policy effective April 1, 2016, as well as an FAQ document on MedNet.
To develop a faculty policy, the FoM assembled a Task Force composed of FoM faculty and staff representatives from departments and centres. The objectives of the Task Force were to gather information on indirect costs of research across Canada, examine the current FoM Indirect Costs Policy and develop and provide recommendations to the Dean and the Faculty. This document we are providing was received by Faculty Executive on March 15, 2016, and takes into account the input received and the need to achieve some consistency across faculties at UBC.
If you have any questions regarding the Policy or how to apply ICR rates to your research projects, please direct these to the FoM Office of Research.
