The Faculty of Medicine at The University of British Columbia invites applications for the position of Head, Department of Physical Therapy. This appointment is for a five (5) year term with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory review and is expected to be filled by a candidate internal to the Faculty. The anticipated start date is November 1, 2016 or upon a date to be mutually agreed.

Faculty members who take on this role have the opportunity to make a direct contribution to the success of their Department, Faculty and the University. They provide the administrative, intellectual, social, and academic management and leadership of the Department, as well as continuing to advance its programs and activities.
The Head of the Department of Physical Therapy will report to the Dean of Medicine and through the Dean is accountable to the University Board of Governors. The incumbent will provide clear direction and strong strategic leadership to the activities carried out by the Department of Physical Therapy. He or she will oversee and ensure adequate resources for the educational/academic programs offered by the Department of Physical Therapy including but not limited to the MPT, MSc, MRSc and PhD and continue to strengthen these programs including national ranking, scholarly excellence and clinical contributions in consultation with faculty members, other University Department Heads, the Dean, students and the clinical community and partners. In collaboration with the faculty members, the incumbent will work to support the educational needs/interests of faculty members including but not limited to mentoring for purposes of tenure and promotion, growth in research skills and accessing research funding. He or she will effectively manage resources and be fiscally accountable for the teaching/learning endeavor, research space and administration of the Department of Physical Therapy. The incumbent will foster and support research partnerships and collaborations for the Department of Physical Therapy in conjunction with faculty members, the Faculty of Medicine and external and affiliated research partners.
The successful candidate should hold a PhD and/or MD degree or equivalent with a proven record of scholarly achievement in research, with demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate, graduate and post graduate education.
