TOPIC: The man who beheaded a fellow passenger on a Greyhound bus in 2008 has now been granted an absolute discharge – which means he is free to continue his life with total freedom, without conditions or any formal oversight on whether he’s taking his medication or not. Vince Li, who has changed his name to Will Baker, was suffering when a schizophrenic episode when he killed Tim McLean, and was found not criminally responsible for the crime. The review board heard from Will Baker’s lawyers & doctors – who argued that he is fit for an absolute discharge…and from the Crown, which argued that Baker still presents a risk to public safety, and that public safety should be the number 1 consideration here. For the review board to come to this decision, they would have had to determined that Baker presents no significant risk to public safety.
