In this issue, we highlight a cedar weaving course taught by Musqueam community members, an event for UBC’s sustainability champions, a car-free morning at Norma Rose Point school, and more!
Campus and Community Planning
As leaders and partners, we plan and design the campus communities through open thinking and engagement.
Musqueam community members connect to cedar
Thanks to a new partnership with the Vancouver Foundation, the Community Grants program has expanded its support for community-building projects, including a workshop at the Musqueam Indian Band.
Read the story and see how Rachel Gibson and community members are learning the basics of traditional cedar bark weaving.
Celebrating UBC’s sustainability champions
UBC’s sustainability champions gathered together on May 16 for the Sustainability Soirée, a celebration of the UBC community’s commitment to sustainability on campus.
The annual event shines the spotlight on faculty, staff, and student contributions to sustainability-focused research projects and employee engagement programs.

A week of car-free fun at UBC
Walk ‘n Roll to School returned May 15-19 to encourage kids (and parents) to leave their car at home and try walking, biking or rollerblading to school. This annual program is designed to promote healthy, safe and sustainable transportation.
This year the week ended with something new: a Car Free Morning at Norma Rose Point School. For this, Ortona Road was transformed into a family-friendly festival where children enjoyed playing games, learning about nature and hanging out with police officers and firefighters while munching on healthy snacks.
