As part of the implementation of our new strategic plan, Building the Future, we are undertaking internal consultations to design a renewed governance committee structure for the Faculty of Medicine.
This governance renewal is meant to increase clarity and effectiveness of decision-making within the Faculty’s committee structure, driven by one of the objectives within the strategic plan’s Organization pillar.
Since late 2016, the leads for the Organization pillar, Deborah Money, Executive Vice Dean and Shanda Jordan Gaetz, Executive Director, Faculty Affairs, have been leading the consultation process to design the draft renewed structure. The renewed structure is taking shape, and we plan to seek approval at Faculty Executive in September, the Full Faculty meeting in November, and the UBC Senate in December.
We are consulting with representatives from the Faculty of Medicine’s departments, schools, centres, and institutes; its regional programs; the programs for undergraduate medical education, postgraduate medical education, health professions, graduate and postdoctoral education, and continuing professional development; research; faculty development; finance, facilities and information technology; faculty affairs; health and safety; and Dean’s Executive and Faculty Executive.
Nevertheless, we acknowledge that we have a very large and diverse organization, so please join the November Full Faculty meeting for more specific details.
Once the renewed structure is approved, we intend to start transitioning to the renewed structure in early 2018. As part of that transition, there will be more communication about the renewed structure and support to operate within it.
We appreciate your patience and ongoing feedback through this process. Please feel free to reach out to us at email@example.com.
