Re: Leadership Opportunities in Interior Health Authority, British Columbia

Are you interested in a change?  Are you looking for new opportunities and challenges?  Then think about leadership opportunities in Mental Health and Substance Use Program in the beautiful southern interior of British Columbia.

With the development of the Mental Health and Substance Use Program in Interior Health, IH has demonstrated a commitment to ensuring that services within MHSU are coordinated across the continuum of care, with strong physician involvement in planning and operations.  We now have funding and approval for a leadership model for physicians within the program consisting of Regional Medical Directors for MHSU for IH West, Central, and East, as well as Tertiary MH, and Regional Subspecialty Medical Leads for Addictions Medicine, Addictions Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent MHSU, and Geriatric MHSU.  The Regional Medical Directors have direct operational responsibility for physicians in their area, while the subspecialty medical leads provide expert opinion and direction to the operational leads, both physician and administrative, through the Health Service Administrators for MHSU for each of the areas.

We are currently looking for physicians with an interest and experience in leadership for two of the Regional Medical Director positions within Interior Health – those for IH West and IH East.  IH West is the large geographic area with Kamloops the largest community but serving a large rural area including communities like Williams Lake, Lillooet, Merritt, 100 Mile House, and others.  IH East includes both the East and West Kootenays, and includes a variety of small urban and rural communities.

This is an exciting time for leadership in Mental Health and Substance Use services in BC with those services being a priority for both our provincial government and Interior Health, when we are likely to see new investments in services creating opportunities for growth. Physician leadership at this time is critical, so I am reaching out to see if there are interested people who would like to talk to me further about either of these roles. The expected time commitment for leadership is two days per week, and you will work closely with the administrative and medical leadership team.

I have worked in Interior Health for just over a dozen years, and enjoy the focus on collaboration and team work, the commitment of our communities to the health of their people, the opportunities for innovation, and frankly the life style available in this beautiful province, where world class recreation is in your back yard.

If you are interested, please contact me by electronic mail, including a letter indicating your interest and a copy of your CV by November 30, 2017.  If you are interested but unsure, contact me for further information or to answer any questions you might have through my IH email address (paul.dagg@interiorhealth.ca).

Sincerely,

Paul Dagg MD FRCPC
