It is with mixed feelings that we announce Shilpa Samji’s departure from the Department of Psychiatry. Shilpa will be leaving her position as the Senior Education Programs Manager in the Psychiatry Education Office having been recruited to the Faculty of Medicine Executive Associate Dean’s Office, Education as the Associate Director, Education Programs and Services effective December 4, 2017. Shilpa has committed to supporting Psychiatry during this critical period of CaRMS in the Postgraduate Program and in ensuring a smooth transition for new staff. So, although she starts her new position December 4, Shilpa has negotiated with her new unit to release time for her from December to early February to support CaRMS and to be available to ensure a smooth transition.
Shilpa was recruited in 2013 as the Senior Education Programs Manager, which was a newly created position focused on providing leadership to the staff in the Department’s education programs at the Diamond Health Centre and being the operational manager for the Psychiatry MD Undergraduate Program and the one Postgraduate Subspecialty Program at that time. Since then, Shilpa embraced the opportunity to expand her role to include the management of two new Postgraduate Subspecialty Programs, oversight for the Department’s Vancouver Summer Program and to be the administrative lead for the development of new courses/programs for the department. Shilpa has been critical to the new curriculum launch in the Psychiatry MD Undergraduate Program in 2017. Under her leadership, there has also been successful implementation of a new payment tracking system and different assessment tools.
She has been an excellent representative for the Department and has formed productive and respectful relationships with many members of the Department and with those external to the Department. Shilpa’s commitment to the Department of Psychiatry Education Programs and her can-do approach will be missed by many. On behalf of the Department, we want to thank Shilpa for the significant contributions she has made in her five years in the Department.
At Shilpa’s request we will not be holding a specific event for her farewell. Instead, please join us in wishing Shilpa farewell at the UBC Department of Psychiatry Festive Celebration on December 14, 2017 5:30 – 8:30 at the UBC golf course.
Please RSVP by December 8, 2017 to email@example.com
