Dear Clinical Faculty,
The Department of Psychiatry is excited to announce our inaugural Psychiatry Summer Immersion Program taking place June 4-6, 2018.
The purpose of the Psychiatry Summer Immersion Program is to provide an opportunity for 1st and 2nd Year undergraduate medical students to explore the field of psychiatry as a potential career option, through engagement with psychiatrists and psychiatry residents. The program will consist of half day interactive sessions and half day clinical observership (shadowing) placements.
Interactive sessions will be held at the Diamond Health Care Centre in Vancouver and will be video-conferenced to the distributed sites (Kelowna, Prince George, Victoria) where possible, depending on demand. Shadowing will take place throughout Metro Vancouver and at participating distributed sites. Clinicians will be assigned two students maximum per shadowing session (a session is 2 hours long).
We are looking for psychiatrists willing to offer shadowing experiences for these students on a one-to-one or two-to-one basis. We are hoping to offer a wide range of shadowing opportunities, in a variety of settings (inpatient, outpatient, community), which may include (but are not limited to): adult, geriatric, child & adolescent, forensic, neuropsychiatry, CL, addiction, reproductive mental health. Students may also attend rounds etc.
Remuneration: Equal to current rate for clinical teaching sessions for undergraduate students (i.e. $90/session for one student, or $110/session for two students)
Deadline for signing up to provide shadowing: March 14th, 2018
