The Department of Psychiatry IT is pleased to offer backup of data files on local drives for Windows desktop computers that are on the Department’s secured network. These backups will stay on-site and be encrypted, so are compliant with FoIPP regulations. The Department is providing the backup server and annual backup software licensing infrastructure. End users will be expected to pay for the storage space that they use.
With this, Psychiatry IT would backup all data files, of all users of the computer (e.g C:\Users). Psychiatry IT will not be doing a “bare metal” backup of Windows or installed applications, because computers can rebuild relatively quickly. Backups would be scheduled to occur each evening and file variations could be recovered for up to 14 days. The cost for users is $0.35 per Gb per year. As an example, early adopters have an average for 30Gb in their c:\user folder so have an annual cost of $10.50.
If you would like to participate, please contact Psychiatry IT at psychiatry.it@ubc.ca, with the asset number of the computer and we will provide an estimated cost for this service
