I am pleased to announce the appointment of Renee Miller as Professionalism Advisor, Clinical Partnerships and Professionalism, effective July 23, 2018.
In this role, Renee Miller will be responsible for facilitating prevention and resolution of complaints of Professional Standards. This will include addressing mistreatment concerns of learners and providing guidance on any other unprofessional conduct within the Faculty of Medicine. Renee will also assist with the development of educational programs and enhance processes to address learner mistreatment and professionalism issues.
Renee brings extensive experience to this role, as a senior lawyer and adjudicator. She is currently vice-chair of the Workers Compensation Appeal Tribunal where she works as an investigator and adjudicator of complaints of injury, discrimination, harassment and bulling in the workplace. She is also responsible for the Tribunal response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, including a revision of the Tribunal’s process to address inequities to the indigenous community. She formerly worked as a legal advocate, primarily in the area of immigration and refugee law, and in the creation of professional development programs for the Law Society of BC, the Canadian Bar Association, and the Continuing Legal Education Society. She has delivered educational programs to a wide variety of public and professional organizations, including the Senate of Canada.
I am confident that Renee will be a valuable addition to the Faculty of Medicine and ask that you join me in welcoming her to this new leadership role.
