Following the call in February 2019 for applications from qualified candidates for the newly established IMH Marshall Scholars and Fellows awards, I am excited to share that this program has garnered significant interest, resulting in a total of 51 applications within a two-month period.
The application period has closed as of March 31, 2019, and as we enter the second phase of the selection process, I am very pleased to announce the establishment of an IMH Scientific Advisory Committee (IMH SAC). IMH SAC membership is comprised of 20 academics from reputable universities across North America who represent diverse fields of research in mental health and basic neuroscience. All the members of the IMH SAC are from outside BC in order to ensure a selection process that is fair and equitable, and free from potential conflicts of interest.
I wish to thank all the members of the IMH SAC for their generous time commitment to this activity and for their contribution to the peer review process. In addition, I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Ayal Schaffer, Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, and Dr. Robert Post, Professor of Psychiatry at George Washington University, for agreeing to jointly serve as the IMH SAC co-chairs.
As the earliest award start date is slated for July 2019, the IMH SAC will commence the review and shortlist process so that the final selections will be complete by June, with notifications going out to the successful candidates very soon thereafter.
I look forward to providing you with further news and updates as the IMH SAC makes progress with its review and selection process.
