All of the SPSS Statistics software that Psychiatry IT has been involved with use a concurrent user licensing program. UBC IT contracts with SPSS for a certain number of concurrent user licenses, for a year. That year runs from June 1 to May 31, followed by a 30 day grace period. When you use SPSS, one of those concurrent licenses is checked-out, for the duration. When you exit SPSS, the license is checked-in to the pool, for someone else to use.
If you have used SPSS recently, you may have noticed a license expiry warning. It is counting down to the end of May, but SPSS will continue to work for another 30 days.
UBC is currently in negotiations with SPSS to purchase another year of concurrent licenses, but it will be mid-June before that is completed. You will continue to get warnings, until then.
