Call for Proposals: Work Learn Winter Session 2019
Call for Proposals:
Work Learn Winter Session 2019
Dear Campus Colleagues –
Position proposals for the UBC Vancouver Work Learn Programare being accepted now through June 21, 2019. This call is for student roles that will occur during the Winter Session (September 1, 2019 – April 30, 2020).
Contributing to UBC’s transformative learning goals, the Work Learn program offers part-time, student employment experiences with the University. Through these workplace experiences, students gain practical experience and transferable skills, refine their career goals, build their networks, apply disciplinary knowledge, and contribute to the broader campus community.
During the 2018-19 year, Work Learn facilitated:
$5.6 million distributed to departments as wage subsidy grants in support of 3,800+ students learning in workplaces from labs, to community spaces, to libraries, and athletic facilities all across campus, working to deliver programs, services, and events that contribute to advancing the University’s priorities.
42% of these student positions were research focused.
16% of which were held by international students.
312 site visits were facilitated with over 500 students.
Mentorship, encouragement, and support for reflection through exemplary supervisory practices that contributed to students reporting feeling more prepared for their career.
For the 2019-2020 year, Work Learn will continue to promote opportunities that connect undergraduate students with research experiences and develop additional resources that support supervisors and students in workplace learning experiences. All of these efforts will improve the ability of our graduates to secure meaningful employment.
