Hello WHRI members,
I wanted to ensure you were aware of a new competition launched by the CIHR Institute of Gender and Health which would be very relevant for our WHRI community. This is a Women’s Health Clinical Mentorship Grant in the amount of $50,000 for one year. This is a unique call which requires a clinical mentor + research trainee dyad, and no other co-investigators. The project must focus on the health of women, and additional subcategories are listed on the Researchnet website. The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:
- Provide women’s health specialists, researchers and trainees with operating funds to perform clinical research;
- Support capacity building in women’s health among the next generation of health researchers; and
- Start positioning Canada as a leader in women’s health research.
CIHR will be updating it’s website to provide more detail on eligibility, but I have spoken with the IGH office and learned the following additional details which will be important to keep in mind in determining whether you are eligible:
Clinician mentor: Must be an independent researcher at an eligible institution. Must hold a Canadian health care provider license for the year of the grant. Open to MDs and PhDs.
Trainee: Can be a graduate student, resident, postdoctoral fellow, clinical fellow. For the duration of the award, the trainee must have 75% of their time protected for research
There is no LOI stage. The full grant is due October 22, 2019. Again, CIHR has indicated that they will be updating Researchnet with more information on eligibility.
