URGENT: Vancouver/Fraser Tutors Needed Nov & Dec – Year 2 Psychiatry Clinical Skills Sessions

**Sent on behalf of FoM Clinical Skills Program – respond to amanda.jones@ubc.ca**

Dear Faculty,

We’ve unfortunately received a last minute cancellation, and urgently require a tutor(s) (psychiatrist) in Vancouver/Fraser for the following dates:

Wednesdays:

November 20th, 1:00 – 4:30 pm: PSYCHIATRY INTERVIEW 1

November 27th, 1:00 – 4:30 pm: PSYCHIATRY INTERVIEW 2

December 4th, 1:00 – 4:30 pm: PSYCHIATRY INTERVIEW 3

Thursday mornings are also available (Nov 21, 28, Dec 5) from 8:30 am – 12:00 pm.

As time is short, our urgent need is to fill the Psychiatric Interview 2 and 3 sessions.

Summary:

The PSYCH 1 session runs from the Diamond Health Care Centre, at VGH, with Standardized Patients who are actors trained to portray characters and respond in specific ways to questions.  We use them to give the students a safe space to practice interviewing a psychiatric patient, as this is their first experience with psychiatry.

The PSYCH 2 and PSYCH 3 sessions can run from a hospital site where you have privileges, or from your own clinic/office/workspace.  The sessions run with psychiatric patients who volunteer their time to be interviewed by the students.  If you cannot teach from your own clinic, we can arrange teaching privileges for you for the Segal Centre at VGH, and can arrange for one of the psychiatrists there to recruit the patients for your sessions. If you would like to teach from your own clinic, or from any non-VGH site, you would have to recruit your own patients for the sessions; if they are ambulatory patients, our program can provide a $20 gift card to patients as a travel stipend for attending the session.
