I am writing to share with you the news that Dr. Lynn Raymond will be stepping down from her role as the Associate Head, Graduate & Undergraduate Medical Education, in the Department of Psychiatry. As you are aware, Dr. Raymond recently accepted the position of Director of the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health, a significant leadership role in which she will oversee the Centre’s next phase of expansion in foundational, translational and clinical research. Although she will be stepping down as Associate Head, I am very pleased that Dr. Raymond has agreed remain on the Department Executive, as her continued participation in her new capacity as DMCBH Director will serve to strengthen the partnership between the Department and the Centre.
In light of this development, I wish to take this opportunity to announce the reorganization and a new appointment within our Department executive leadership team. First, I am pleased to inform you that Dr. Raymond Lam has volunteered to move into the new role of Associate Head, Graduate & Undergraduate Medical Education, and will step down from his current role of Associate Head, Research & International Affairs. In turn, I am also excited to announce that Dr. Sophia Frangou will be stepping into the role of Associate Head, Research & International Affairs, and will take over the portfolio previously overseen by Dr. Lam. These changes will be effective as of April 1, 2020.
As a result of this reorganization, Dr. Lam will now be responsible for providing strategic leadership in the development and implementation, as well as oversight on all aspects of the Graduate and Undergraduate Medical Programs related to psychiatry. Dr. Frangou, in taking over the role of Associate Head, Research & International Affairs, will be responsible for providing strategic leadership in promoting excellence in research in the Department, and in building the international profile of the Department through establishment of partnerships and collaborations with various academic centers, institutes, and government agencies globally.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Frangou to the Department executive leadership team, and also in wishing both Dr. Lam and Dr. Raymond much success in their respective new roles and responsibilities. I look forward to working closely with each of them as together we accomplish the immediate and long-term strategic goals of the Department in the weeks, months and years ahead.
