COVID-19 Research Strategy

Dear Department Faculty, Residents, Fellows, and Graduate Students,

As UBC researchers across all units and disciplines refocus their efforts to address COVID-19, the Department of Psychiatry has also embarked on a coordinated strategy to facilitate research on COVID-19 and mental health.

To advance this initiative, a COVID-19 special interest group has been set up to explore various project ideas, map out priority areas for collaboration, and identify targeted grants and other funding opportunities. Dr. Sophia Frangou, Associate Head, Research & International Affairs, will be leading this group and will serve as the primary point of contact.  Additionally, the Department website will now feature a dedicated page that provides information on the Department’s COVID-19 research strategy, and will also highlight new COVID-19 and mental health studies being pursued by UBC Psychiatry researchers, as well as similar-themed projects taking place in other UBC units and departments.

For faculty members who are interested in preparing and submitting a proposal for research on COVID-19 and mental health, or already have a proposal in progress, you are encouraged to contact Dr. Frangou at in order to discuss how your proposal may be supported by the Department and this new initiative.
