In a recent op-ed printed in the Vancouver Sun, UBC Psychiatry Professor Dr. Anthony Bailey and Dr. Grace Iarocci of Simon Fraser University weighed in on the absence of educational provisions for children with special needs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He and Dr. Iarocci write, “[T]he lack of guidance by the education ministry on minimum standards for education delivery and support unwittingly sends the message that the delivery of special education may not be important. Yet quite the opposite is true: affected children are already behind in their academic achievement and/or social development and risk lagging even further without ongoing educational support.”
