Stage 1 of Research Resumption

**Sent on behalf of Dr. Lakshmi N. Yatham (Professor and Head, UBC Department of Psychiatry), Dr. Sophia Frangou (Associate Head, Research and International Affairs), and Ms. Vicky Yau (Director of Administration, UBC Department of Psychiatry)**

Dear Department Members,

Further to the UBC broadcast message on May 12 regarding plans for the phased resumption of on-campus research, the University and the Faculty of Medicine are now planning for the phased resumption of research activities. To facilitate this process, the Faculty of Medicine has developed guidelines for the phased resumption which can be found in the below Faculty of Medicine Research Resumption: Guiding Principles and Prioritization for Stage 1, document. As you will note from this document, Department Heads/Center Directors are responsible for developing a research resumption plan while ensuring adherence to all the guiding principles outlined in the document.

FoM Research Resumption Guiding Principles and Prioritization for Stage 1

As a part of this plan, for Stage 1, we suggest the following:

  • We strongly encourage all researchers to continue working remotely if possible
  • Occasional and brief onsite access: For those who require brief access to their work site to access resources periodically (e.g. collect mail, or key documents), the Department is working on a Departmental rotating schedule whereby each research group will be allocated a time-slot for periodic access, and each research group will be notified of their allocated time. No further special approvals are required for this.
  • Resumption of onsite research activities: Those who wish to resume research activities on-site during this period require explicit approval. Such requests must meet the requirements for research prioritization specified in the guidance document and need clear justification.  Further, approval to conduct on-site research activities are to be limited to those who require on-site resources and cannot conduct their work remotely.
  • To request approval to resume on-site research activities, please send your request to Vicky Yau (yau@ubc.ca ) no later than 5 pm, Thursday, May 28. Once your request is received, you will receive information about the process to request for approval.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact Vicky Yau, Director of Administration, UBC Department of Psychiatry (vicky.yau@ubc.ca).

Sincerely,

Dr. Lakshmi N. Yatham, Professor and Head, UBC Department of Psychiatry

Dr. Sophia Frangou, Associate Head, Research & International Affairs

Ms. Vicky Yau, Director of Administration, UBC Department of Psychiatry
