Hello again from the Department’s Research and Scholarly Activity Committee! We’re pleased to provide you with an update on our committee’s work to support residents’ research and scholarly activity endeavours.
You’ll likely remember that the Research and Scholarly Activity Committee is responsible for ensuring that our department’s residency program meets Royal College training objectives for research and scholarly activity. Specific responsibilities include the identification, development, enhancement, promotion, monitoring and evaluation of resident scholarly activity projects, and ensuring that objectives relating to research and scholarly activity are integrated throughout the educational program. The committee meets quarterly. During the meetings, resident submissions of their final scholarly activity reports are collectively reviewed.
You can find copies of all relevant documentation relating to scholarly activity on the department website here: https://psychiatry.ubc.ca/education-programs/postgraduate-education-scholarly-activity/scholarly-activity-project/
Amongst the resources is a copy of a PowerPoint presentation delivered annually to PGY1 residents detailing the expectations, activities and timelines relating to scholarly activity. New amongst the resources is a brief survey to help residents track their annual publications and presentations. We ask that all residents complete this survey annually by June 30th in order for us to effectively record (and promote) their accomplishments.
If you have questions or need support relating to scholarly activity please contact Dr. Erin Michalak, Associate Program Director, Scholarly Activity, via firstname.lastname@example.org or your regional committee member (see below). If you’re a potential supervisor looking to be matched up with a resident to support a project or systematic review, please feel free to contact us!
