Congratulations to Dr. Jehannine Austin, Elected Vice-President of the International Society of Psychiatric Genetics!

 

Dr. Jehannine Austin has been elected as Vice-President of the International Society of Psychiatric Genetics (ISPG). The ISPG is worldwide society of professionals committed to the advancement of research and education in the field of psychiatric genetics. This new leadership role follows Dr. Austin’s previous role as President of the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC), the largest professional organization for genetic counsellors in the world.

Dr. Austin is a Professor who is jointly appointed in the Departments of Psychiatry and Medical Genetics. She is also a Research Scientist at the BC Mental Health and Addictions Institute, and a Canada Research Chair in Translational Psychiatric Genomics. Her research interests include the clinical implications of psychiatric genetics, with a focus on genetic and environmental contributors to post-partum episodes of mental illness, the impact of psychiatric genetics on mental illness stigma, and the outcomes of providing genetic counselling to individuals with mental illness and their family members.
