COVID-19: Dr. Steven Taylor’s Article in The Independent Anticipates Surge in Online Panic Buying as the Threat of a Second Lockdown Looms
In a new article in The Independent, Dr. Steven Taylor discusses the phenomenon of “panic buying” at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and anticipates that, as the threat of a second lockdown looms, this behaviour will likely been seen again, but this time it will go digital. Individuals will likely resort to online purchases due to the ease, convenience, and anonymity it provides, and in order to avoid the public shaming that occurred as panicked shoppers over-purchased items such as toilet paper during the first lockdown.
Dr. Taylor will be presenting on “The Psychology of COVID-19” at our Virtual Research Day on October 15th.
