In Memoriam: Corinne Carpenter

Dear Department Members,

With permission from the Carpenter family, we share with you the heartbreaking news that Corinne Carpenter passed away on Friday September 11, 2020 following complications from a brief illness.

As many of you know, Corinne was the Administrative Coordinator of the UBC Psychiatry Administration team from 2010 to 2019. In her role, Corinne was the primary point of contact in the Head’s Office and the organizer for our annual Department events, such as Research Day, the Festive Winter Celebration, and the Clinical Faculty Appreciation Business Dinner. For the many faculty members, students and staff who had the pleasure of interacting with Corinne, she will be remembered as a very friendly and personable individual who was always eager to offer her help and assistance.

For those of us who worked closely with Corinne on a daily basis, she was our dear colleague and friend.  We will remember her genuinely caring nature, her kindness and generosity of spirit, her warm smile and boisterous laughter, and her wonderful and sometimes irreverent sense of humor. To anyone in need, Corinne would always be the first to spring to action to offer her support in the form of wisdom, advice, treats, an Advil, a funny note, or a sympathetic ear.  Those who knew her personally were aware that her children, Alexandra (Missy) and James, were her pride and joy, and the centre of her world.  We send to them, as well as to the rest of her family and many friends, our heartfelt condolences during this most difficult time.  Please know that we share in your grief, but will do our best to honour your wish – to hold in our hearts our many fond and joyful memories of Corinne with a smile rather than tears.

Due to COVID-19, a small, private Celebration of Life was held. In Corinne’s memory, her family asks that you consider donating blood, registering as an organ donor, or making a donation to Foundry BC.

If you have a message to share with Corinne’s family, please send them here, or feel free to contact to Margaret Koshi at margaret.koshi@ubc.ca, and she will be glad to relay your message, photos or other mementos to the Carpenter family.

Sincerely,

The UBC Psychiatry Administration Team
