Appointment of Dr. Jennifer Russel as Postgraduate CAP Subspecialty Program Director

 

 

Dear students, residents, staff and colleagues,

As the recruitment process for the position of Postgraduate Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) Subspecialty Program Director has concluded, we are delighted to announce that Dr. Jennifer Russel has been appointed to this role for a three-year term, from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2023.

In this role, Dr. Russel will be responsible for the overall conduct and evaluation of the Postgraduate CAP Subspecialty Program, ensuring that it continues to fully meet the RCPSC standards of accreditation.  Her duties will include facilitating regular review and updating of the Program’s overall goals of training based on the CanMEDs competencies, maintaining the high quality of CAP subspecialty education within Vancouver and at our distributed training sites, and overseeing the successful implementation of Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) into the CAP Subspecialty Program as of July 1, 2021.

Dr. Russel joined the UBC Department of Psychiatry in 2011, and was promoted to Clinical Assistant Professor in 2015.  She is currently the Clinical Director for the Compass Program at BC Children’s Hospital, and was previously the Medical Director for the BCCH Adolescent Psychiatry Inpatient Unit. In 2020, Dr. Russel was named a Physician Changemaker by the Canadian Medical Association.
