INVITATION FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST in PGE Leadership Roles & Resignation of Dr. Todd Tomita as Forensic Psychiatry Subspecialty Program Director

Dear Colleagues,

It is with mixed feelings that we announce that Dr. Todd Tomita has decided to step down as the Program Director of the Postgraduate Forensic Psychiatry Subspecialty Program in the UBC Department of Psychiatry, after having served in this role since 2015. While we will miss the competent leadership and support he has provided to the Program over the last five years, we fully support his decision to step down in order to pursue other career aspirations. His resignation will be effective as soon as a new Program Head can be identified.

Dr. Tomita has played an integral role in the Forensic Psychiatry Subspecialty Program. Among his many responsibilities, he has facilitated regular review and updating of the overall goals of training based on the CanMEDs competencies, and has overseen the delivery of forensic subspecialty education at the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital training site in Port Coquitlam, as well as the six regional forensic clinics in Vancouver, Surrey, Victoria, Nanaimo, Kamloops, and Prince George. In addition to providing strong support to our PGY6 fellows and the enrichment of their training experience, he has strongly advocated on behalf of forensic psychiatry subspecialty education, the Program, and the Department at local and national meetings.

Please join us in expressing our sincere gratitude to Dr. Tomita for his hard work in supporting forensic subspecialty psychiatry education across the province. We wish him the very best in his future endeavours, and look forward to continuing to support him in his clinical faculty appointment within the Department.
